The time has come, my Friend, to have you swallow an incredibly hard to swallow pill. That is, the fact that plants and vegetables are not meant to be eaten by humans.
Think of it this way. Prey animals can defend themselves from predators. They can either flee, they can bite, they can hit predators with horns or hooves or tails. That is the way they evolved.
Plants, on the other hand, have no such defence mechanisms. They are stuck in the ground, like really, immobile. Yet they still are living organisms that want to remain alive and wish to pass their genes onto their offspring and extend their species lifetime on Earth.
You would think of them as being pure and defenceless. Never would you be so wrong, however. So how can plants defend themselves from potential predators or, actually, herbivores and omnivores? They can do so thanks to numerous defence chemicals they produce within their own bodies. That is the way they evolved.
Hence the defense molecules are spread across all the parts of a plant. They are pumped into leaves, stems, unripe fruits, nuts and seeds. Fruits, however, as long as they are ripe they actually are the least defended parts of plants as plants utilize fruits to pass their genes to next generations. Plants actually “want” you to consume their fruits. Why is that? Well, if you happen to consume a fruit then there is a chance that you are going to poop a seed into the soil and make it possible for the seed to grow into a new plant. Quite an easy and elegant mechanism of reproduction, don’t you think?
Defence chemicals that are contained in plants are called, quite literally, antinutrients because they are not meant to be consumed by human species and, more importantly, they even are capable of blocking absorption of actual nutrients from other foods like meat and cheese during the digestion process occurring in a small colon.
Antinutrients are well known to cause autoimmune reactions, too. Long exposure — an exposure which is spread over years or decades, even — to plant-based defence compounds leads to development of chronic autoimmune diseases, i.e., hypothyroidism, skin related issues, eczema, gastrointestinal tract issues, SIBO (small intestine bacterial overgrowth) and many others.
In the end not only do plants poison you with their defense molecules but they also make it very difficult for you to absorb and digest vitamins and minerals contained in other foods. There are plenty of studies and evidence to support that. The only problem is, unfortunately, that to publicly say such things about plants and to dare to openly say plants should not be consumed by humans is very much against mainstream narrative which blindly states that plants and vegetables are superfoods and that they should be favored over animal-based products at all costs.
So, do not ever expect to hear anything bad about plants, vegetables and plant-based foods from mainstream media, Internet, doctors, physicians, dieticians, nutritionists, coaches and other public health care professionals. You and only you must dive into the Rabbit Hole and you need to discover the Truth on your own. With a little help of mine, of course.
The antinutrients — the defense molecules — are primarily, but are not limited to, phytates, oxalates, lectins and gluten. This is, however, just a tip of an iceberg.
